Hit the Note

Melody of thoughts

Started with a prelude in his head

Vocals in his heart

Hit the perfect tone every time

Like a treble to the bass

Or a clef to a staff

High-hats led the way and turned his lyrics into rap

A tap of his foot pulsed a rhythm in the sky

And a whistle from his lips

Made it like an ensemble passing by

Repeated again and again

It held his emotions deep inside

But the snare of the drums

Beat too loud for them to hide

A Flicker in the Night

candleinthewind

A lonely light lingers in a room full of darkness

Sparks ignite

She shimmers and glows

She dances and drips down to the floor

A breeze engulfs her

But fights off the urge to stop

She’s the entertainment of the night

The star of the show

Bright as any in the sky,

Glowing for all see

Alone in the world

But her fire inside burns bright

The beat in her heart pulses the room

And eyes follow up and down

Her every twirl

Without her

A world trembles in fear

One blow

She dances no more

A lonely light lingers in a room full of darkness

I have been writing blog post, after blog post and I never had the chance to tell much about myself! I guess if you count my About the Author page, but that doesn’t tell too much about me. So, I have decided to take a break from my normal blog posts and come up with a list of my likes and dislikes! I put my top 10 of each in bold, caps and underline, not in any particular order. It’s really hard to make a top 10, because some of my likes and dislikes are sillier than others, but I tried!(:

The Mic is in Your Hands

September 24, 2012

Hello, excuse me, is this thing on?

I was told that I have only one minute to talk and I have a few things to say. My name is Vincent and I’m just your normal 21 year-old kid from New Jersey. I sit back, live life and try to learn new things along the way. I stay out of trouble and always keep family and others above everything else. I’m here because I was promised by the President of the United States that I have one minute to say whatever is on my mind. This is my first time in front of a camera, let alone being on television, so just bare with me, I might come off as a little nervous.

Well let me begin, my first issue is war, why are we still in it and why are our troops overseas? I thought that we have achieved our mission. I know, many agree and many disagree with me, but I’m just looking at it from my point of view. We promised to send troops home, but many are still out on duty. No one should be out in different countries, they need to be home in the United States. If we are out overseas to look for oil then we don’t need soldiers to do so. Nothing good ever comes out of war, send home all of our troops.

Next, television and music. I am tired and fed up of what music is played on the radio and what is shown all over the world. It is just ridiculous and inappropriate that we are spreading these kind of messages to our younger generations. Many are wondering why, why are we in debt, why are there no jobs and why is the economy is down? I think the messages through music and television are part of the reason why.

Kids turn on the radio or turn on the television and reenact what they see. Girls think that it is okay to be sluts and boys think that it is okay to be pimps. Then we sit back and wonder why there are so many teenagers who are pregnant. Instead of going out and trying to pursue an education or better the world, many kids are sitting home sleeping through life, hoping that the world is handed to them.

One man, once voice, one dream

It is not entirely their fault, some of the blame falls on the media and you Mr. President.  It is the media that wants to make money. They know what sells and that is why they put this sexual, degrading products on the radio and on television. For some reason or another, people love to watch and listen to it and the media knows that. They know that views equals money. Do they care about the message that they are sending out? No. They are self-centered people who only care about themselves.

I’m sorry, but  Mr. President, you sit up in your office behind your millions of dollars as the world turns and things get worse. The poor keep getting poorer and the rich keep getting richer. Yet, behind it all you promise change, you promise a different life and a different future for the children of tomorrow. I was naive to realize it, but what you said was mostly a lie. I’m not singling you out Mr. President, I’m talking about you as well as the presidents before you and presidents who are next to follow. All of whom promise the world, but never deliver.

I think that I have surpassed my one minute limit. I am sorry if I have offended any one with this speech, but I’m just speaking from the heart.

Just like Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, I too have a dream.

I dream that the world can one day wake up and realize some of its flaws instead of glorifying itself. I dream for a bright future and a brighter tomorrow.

Thank you all for your time.

Look Beyond Looks

What does the word beautiful really mean?

Is it what the media tells us is beautiful or is it really that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? I believe beauty is defined by what the media tells us. It shown to us in every magazine, commercial and television show. Just because beauty is shown in that way, doesn’t mean what it is defined as.

Many people take one look in a mirror and they look away. They say to themselves that they are not “beautiful”  and say that they don’t have the perfect eyes, nose or teeth.  Then again what does the word, perfect actually mean? The answer is the word, perfect and the word beautiful is whatever you want it to mean. It is a perception, just because someone thinks that something is beautiful or attractive it doesn’t have to mean that you believe the same exact thing.

I really want to know who is the person that invented mirrors. I believe they can be categorized under the top five worst inventions of all time. The only point of a mirror is for someone at themselves and identify their flaws instead of identifying their something good about them self. Even so-called actors and actresses look in the mirror and even though they are considered “perfect” they can still point out flaws about them self. If these “beautiful” people thought they were fine the way they are, then why do they go out and spend millions of designer clothes and cosmetic surgery? It is so they can try to look their best at all times, or what people consider “looking their best”.

Beyonce was voted the 2012 most beautiful women. What actually makes her more beautiful than anyone else?

Look at any front page of a magazine and tell what do you see. You see the media’s idea of the most attractive person. Why is this the model of what is considered beautiful? Instead of having the most attractive person on the cover of a  magazine, how about you put someone who as actually made in impact on someone’s life. I am talking about someone who doesn’t go around, flaunt their looks and collect their paychecks. Try putting someone in the spotlight who has invented something that made a difference or maybe someone who spent their time helping others. Those are people who deserve to be on magazine covers and have cameras follow them around.

Next time you look into the mirror, just think. I want you to think, is this what I want to be? Do these clothes, shoes, and style fit who I really am.

Make sure you are being the person that you want to be and not the person you want others to think you are. Stay true to yourself and don’t change for anyone, no matter what others think of you.

People can call you unattractive and this and that, but so what? That is their opinion and who cares what they may think. Want to know the real definition of beautiful?  The people who don’t judge a book by a cover are the true definition of beautiful. Someone who can be them self without worrying what others think of them is what the word “beautiful” really means.

Today I did this, tomorrow I will do that and I can’t believe that actually happened to me. Sounds kind of familiar, right?

It’s pretty much what people use social media for, that is to share exactly what happened to them every second of the day. Some people are obsessed with social media and the need to update their life to an audience. There are all kinds of people who use social media. Family members, friends and even celebrities use it as well. I think it’s time to stop talking about what happened to you on a daily basis and time to go out and actually live life without a status update every hour.

There are many positives when it comes to social media. I think the biggest one is staying in touch with all of your close contacts. It’s a quick, easy way to say hi to someone who you want to talk to, but don’t really want to call up on the phone. Also, it can be used to share pictures and memories that you can sit back and reminisce on some day. All of this I get and understand. I think that it is great to keep in contact with someone who you really couldn’t see on a daily basics. I am not saying social media is a bad thing, I’m saying people need to stop spending every hour of the day using social media.

Hop on a social media site and there are posts about some of the most useless things ever. Some of these posts include people pretty much sharing their life to the world. There are people who tell every little issue of their life, including what they should eat for dinner that night. I think that people like to use it for attention, they want it to seem that they are so important that even their littlest of decisions will impacts someones life reading it. The biggest abuse of social media has to be celebrities. They use social media as a platform to build their celebrity status and obtain a big of a  following as possible.

Social media pressures young teenage kids into following trends for all the wrong reasons.

Let’s take an example, your friend Lisa has a party with a few friends. The day after, she posts all of her pictures from the party on a social media site where the world can see. All of her pictures include her and her friends in revealing clothing, surrounded by under age drinking. Everyone she knows comments on her pictures saying how much fun they had and how it was the greatest night ever. As a young kid at the time, you see these other kids getting so much interest and popularity that you want to do the same exact them as they do. Why would you not? What kid doesn’t’ want the spotlight and attention. Teenage kids are promoting that these actions are acceptable and worst of all celebrities are doing the same exact thing, showing that it okay to do.

Is social media a good thing or a bad thing? I would still say it was a good thing, but with some hesitation. It’s great to use to keep in touch with your friends and to share your ideas or whatever is on your mind from time to time. It gets to a point where it is used just for the sake of trying to get attention. What is the point of posting party pictures or revealing pictures of yourself on social media? The answer is that there is none and trust me there are kids, teens and adults who continue to do so. There is also no point to update every hour what you are doing, or where you are going, it is just crazy! It’s fine to enjoy social media, but not don’t become consumed with it. Don’t go crazy posting random things just for attention, just remember the world is watching.

The mic is in your hands and there is an audience hanging on your every word. What you say is broadcasted over the radio airlines and is listened to by millions of people.

Some embrace their power to spread a positive message and others don’t.

I think that radio stations are at an all time low point. A point where there needs to be a censor on some of the music that is played. It is to a point where it is getting crazy. Music artists can say whatever they want and people will listen, they don’t care if it is spreading a negative message, they just want to jam out to a catchy beat.

Artists like Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller make music just to make money. Almost all of their songs are about money, drugs, guns and exploiting women. There is no positive message to any of the songs that they have. Those songs are the same songs that get played on the radio, because people think they are catchy and popular.

Not all artists spread a negative message. Rap artists like Lupe Fiasco, J.Cole, and Common all spread music that actually have some kind of meaning. I’m not saying every single song they have is positive, but a good majority of their music is positive. Music artists like them still don’t get much play on the radio. Even when they do, it’s just usually one song that is  over played and the meaning behind the lyrics are over looked.

So music with a negative message gets rewarded with radio air time. Music with a positive message gets put on the shelve.

The thing is that it’s going to get worse before it gets better. If I was a parent I would not want my kid listening to the music that they play on the radio. It’s disgusting, degrading and doesn’t deserve to get the amount of popularity that it does.

Maybe one day someone will finally catch on and realize.
